Some Stuff You Should Do to Make Sure You Don't Get Hacked

Make sure not all your accounts are linked together. It's a good start to keep Twitter and Facebook unconnected. It's a good idea to use different email addresses to log in to these and other common sites. Getting everything connected to a single email account will lead to catastrophe if that email is hacked. Be sure to check out the different applications and plugins that have access to your account as well.

Use an efficient, unique password.

A randomized combination of symbols, letters, and numbers are best; or at the very least, use a combination which has both letters and numbers and avoids common phrases. Yes, it is a pain to develop and remember unique passwords. The easiest way to make it manageable is to use a well-respected password manager such as Lastpass. Just ensure you protect your account with a strong password that you won't forget about.

Using the Password Manager

Using many different, robust passwords and changing them also makes Internet life simpler for you in the long run—you're less likely to get hacked—but it isn't straightforward in the short run because you need to remember all those different passwords. Luckily, you don't even need to remember any of them—you need to remember is one master password that unlocks the password manager. The best are 1Password, LastPass, and Dashlane. Expect to pay a little for it, but it's worth it.
